Get a workup before you work out.

A healthy idea to think about:

Before you jump off the couch and into the gym, discuss your fitness plans with your physician. Getting the green light is important, especially if you’re out of shape, over 40, have a chronic medical condition or haven’t had a physical since the Clinton administration.

Consult with your physician before beginning any exercise regimen.

I totally agree. Even young people with no signs or symptoms of blockages in their arteries should get their annual physical with their MD. Think about our young sports men and women who have suffered a significant event. I have met healthy individuals who "did everything right" and still needed some kind of medical intervention. Some people might have congenital conditions or diabetes and not even know it. Remember, not everyone experiences the "textbook" signs and symptoms of heart disease, and not all people will experience the same significant feelings.

Very important.  I have also asked my doctor to fit my physical to my particular needs each year.
