Stretch the benefits of exercise.

A healthy idea to think about:

Sandwich your workouts with stretching and you’ll help head off injury, keep joints and muscles limber and perk up your posture. When it comes to stretching however, technique is everything: Warm up before you stretch and gently hold each stretch for no longer than 30 seconds without moving or bouncing.

Consult with your physician before beginning any exercise regimen.

This is great advice.  To stay fit, the key is flexibilty.  Sometimes when we are vegging on the couch turn on a fitness channel and stretch with the host/hostess.  I can do my sweaty hard workout early on the road or in the gym and then get a calming stretching session in the comfort of my living room.

Thanks for the reminder.  I often forget to stretch and sometimes regret it later.

Can anybody recommend a good book on the topic of stretching...particularly one on technique and stretching recommendations for specific workouts (i.e. running, swimming, biking, weight lifting, etc.).

Thanks.

I try to stretch before and after working out, but it's been a long time since I have updated my stretching routine.  I know that some exercises have been updated to ensure that you do not injure yourself while stretching.  I once used a stretching video.  I am going to look for an updated one.

Like most things in life, if you don't use it you lose it.  If we don't use and stretch our muscles we lose body tone and flexibility, something it's easy to ignore, but it's never too late!
