Confused [8-)] Flaxseed vs. Fish Oil

I’ve taken Flaxseed Oil (pill form) for two years now and have recently switched to Fish Oil since I’ve heard a lot of positive things about it. Both provide the needed Omega-3 that most people don’t get enough of but I was wondering if anyone who has been taking Fish Oil for some time now can tell me what they think about it. I started taking Fish Oil because of the benefits it has for the skin and hair in addition to the Omega-3. I’ve read a lot of material where people claim that they have great skin and hair from taking Fish Oil. I’ve only been on it for two weeks now which isn’t enough to make a difference I would think. I take 1000mg three times a day as the bottle recommends.

Has anyone noticed a difference with their hair or skin from taking Fish Oil?

I have been taking the Omega-3s for at least two years and have noticed no improvements in my hair or nails and my heart still misses beats when I lie down to sleep.  but my doc seems to think that my positive blood work may be due to the Omega 3s.  as for improving the hair and nails I would have to credit that to the Biotine (spelling not sure).  I just started taking those this spring/summer and have certainly noticed an improvement in my nails the ridges and flaking seem to be diminishing.  Big Smile

Hello. I am not sure if I noticed a difference in one over the other (for healthy hair & nails) but both are quite beneficial to your overall health. Beware of the mercury content in your fish oil capsules, the oil is concentrated so it is possible to have a high concentration of mercury as well.  Ground Flax seed is very good if you want to supplement with a combination of both,  I used to add it to my cereal and even works well in baked goods (like a favorite muffin mix). It has a pleasant nutty flavor, it contains fiber, and can really be added to any food (even a tomato sauce) if you are trying to help sneak some healthy food into a spouse's or partner's diet (or your own).  Just be sure to store it in the freezer as it is perishable.
